Fantastic read dealing w/ women's issues in the church hierarchy. A masterful take on both sides of the issue. A must read for all women who are smart & independent. A great book club discussion book. Yeah for RA Brown- write another one !
Employing an energetically enticing writing style, Brown has pulled-off a seemingly impossible feat in universalizing what might have been just a single interest niche book. Brown's thriller, Created Equal, landed solidly in my short list of non-stop-read books; the few and far between ones that keep me riveted to the page and anxious to get on to the next chapter. I absolutely loved it. The only regret that I had in perusing this instantly gripping novel was that it wasn't one hundred pages longer! Brown's pacing was superb. I rank Created Equal with the best of Len Deighton, John LeCarré, and Dan Brown. Wherever you read, beach, bed, plane, or porch; Created Equal will provide fast-moving entertainment and a relaxing read. I highly recommend it, and hope that Brown has already started to write his next book!
This is a delightful must read. Full of surprising twists and a surprising ending.
Created Equal is a fast paced, well written story of a woman who desires to become a Catholic priest. It will be of great interest to anyone who reveres the US doctrine of freedom of religion. The juxtaposition of legal and personal desires and defenses of the characters makes for highly entertaining reading concerning a topic of great current debate, whether the reader is Catholic or not. The author draws expertly on his own experiences as an attorney and life-long Catholic. The setting and characters are highly believable and realistic. Created Equal surges to an electric conclusion that may or may not satisfy your curiosity about women becoming priests, but it will leave you with a desire to read and/or see more on the topic.
Literature should exposed the reader to ideas and moral questions. In a griping fashion the author cogently presents the theological and legal cases for women within the Roman Catholic clergy. Before reading this novel, I had no idea there could even be an argument. But the author presents the arguments -- pro and con -- in an entertaining way. I never would have read an essay on the subject, but this book I couldn't put down.
Interesting but really fails to fully develop the preeminent role God created for women.
It was nice to see the question of women's position in the Catholic Church so well
presented.
It raised many questions and presents the argument for a prominent role for women in a logical
non-confrontational manner.
This type of book will help bring about the needed changes in the Church.
