I didn't think I would enjoy reading this book as much as I did book 1, but I did. The h's are totally different in each book, where the H (brother's), and strong alpha types.Our h in this story, is trying to make her brother's proud and wants to help the war effort like her brother's. So she hates dresses, wears pants, and can't do any of the things Regency women are suppose to do. She is strong willed and feisty and I enjoyed her banter and antics with the H. Madee for an interesting read.
We get passionate lovemaking, mildly descriptive at 95% into the book. Even though this is book 2, I feel it could be a stand alone. Character's from the first book appear in this one, but not enough to confuse you. But, I did so enjoy book 1 that I would highly recommend you read it and all other books by this author. This one made me laugh and you need that at times in a story. The character's are well developed and I enjoyed their journey.
We get HEA, slow build for romance, no cliffhanger either. I can't wait to read a book about Knight and Drake and hope Ms Holt writes fast. *ljb)

Briefly, men did not wear briefs in the time of Napoleon. Nor did anyone use the phrase "do their/your/her thing". This author needs to write in the manner of the era and not refer to clothing not known until 1934, when briefs were introduced (in the United States at Marshal Fields in Chicago), nor use slang from the 1960's. Although it is charming to have a female character who wears men's clothing nearly exclusively, it would not have been acceptable even in the most enlightened households. Around home perhaps if circumstances warranted it but certainly not in other towns or locations. PLEASE!!!!!!! When writing, know your history and correct terminology. Had the author referred to men's smalls or drawers or said that the artist mother was preoccupied by her art ... then the story would have had a more authentic feel to it.

Patience Grey is not the womanly sort. She much prefers manly attire to dresses and would prefer to rule her own life and not be dictated to by others.
Nathaniel Kingsley is known as a rake. He is not at all what he seems.Under this facade is a hero in the making.
This book starts out as a laugh a minute title that I just couldn't put down. I always find something to laugh about in a Samantha Holt book and this one did not disappoint.
I gave this book 4.5 of 5.0 stars for storyline and character development and a sensual rating of 3.5 of 5.0 flames. Although not filled with intimate scenes there is at least one very heated one.

Regency Era Romance
Lord Nathaniel Kingsley🐺🍆🌋 is a rogue of the worst sort. He is a smuggler💰 and a devastating lady's man.
Patience💃💋👖, sister of Jacob Grey, has had to take up the slack at their estate while he is injured. Jacob and Nate🐺🍆🌋 are good friends and he as assisted them in the smuggling operation from time to time. Jacob is an agent for the British Crown.
Nate🐺🍆🌋 insists she become engaged to him for her own protection, while she protests. But he sees the way she looks at him!
Patience💃💋 wears men's clothing👖 as she goes about the estate. Patience is also tracking a French spy as a favor to her brother, and he has asked Nate🐺🍆🌋 to assist her, even though she thinks she doesn't need him.
Nathaniel🐺🍆🌋 and Patience💃💋 are to become man and wife👰 for the spying mission, but Patience💃💋 wants nothing to do with the rogue! We'll see about that!

Fun and interesting book! I really enjoyed this one! I think it could be categorized as a Historical Romantic Comedy!
I really enjoyed this book on a number of levels. Yes, it had romance, a handsome second son rake (Nate), and a feisty heroine, Patience, who was neither especially handsome, nor patient. However, the book is full of witty repartee between the two as they find themselves involved in intrigue and conflict, and eventually, passion. There was some unnecessary language, including blasphemy, and the book could have used better editing. None of this detracted from the plot itself. Patience, the only girl in a family of brothers, strove to be like them, both in behavior and dress, even to the point of binding her generous breasts, all because she overheard her late father bemoan that she was not born a boy. Nathaniel, a second son and acknowledged rake, had no intention of marrying, but never had he encountered a woman like Patience. This is a book that will keep you entertained such that you will hate to put down.
Miss Patience Grey grew up with older brothers and always trying to prove herself to them. Now she has the perfect chance - what she can do without is the devishly handsome lord her brother has assigned to accompany her on this mission.
Lord Nathaniel Kingsley leaps at the chance to help a friend, a friend who has helped him on more than one occasion, and have a little adventure. What he hasn't counted on is his rebellious partner - the friend's baby sister.
When the mission takes longer than Patience likes will she find trouble while trying to hurry it along and can Nate save her from herself?
A fake engagement, a breeches wearing female, an atrocious pink dress, insecurities,a rescue in an unexpected way, and a sheep culminate in a funny but touching story by Samantha Holt.
Ms. Holt's Patience drew me in and feeling her lack of self confidence as a woman and her desire to prove herself. And while Nate portrayed the lovable rogue his desire to break free of his brother and prove himself were tangible.
I loved my first Samantha Holt book (the second in her Rogues of Redmere series). She has definitely been added to my MUST READ list!
